The wait is finally over for the long anticipated debut of action sports superstar Travis Pastrana in NASCAR. The X games and extreme sports hero will be attempting to make his first career NASCAR Nationwide Series start this Saturday at Lucas Oil Raceway. Pastrana’s Nationwide Series plans also include the Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway in October, along with six other Nationwide Series races.
“I'm going to go to Indy without expectations. I have to drive the car the best that I can drive it without overdriving it. Honestly, judging off of the K&N races, we're going to be mid- to back of the pack. If we get a top 20, I shouldn't say I’d be happy because no driver is ever happy unless they are on top of the podium, but that would be really good for us.
"I want to learn something every race. I want to make improvements every race. Even if those improvements aren't in the results, I want to be as competitive as we possibly can be with the experience we have. I was talking with Jimmie Johnson the other day and asked him if he had any tips or how he can help me. He said, 'Look, I could tell you a lot of stuff, but the bottom line is seat time.'
Pastrana’s Nationwide debut Saturday will come in the middle of the 17th annual X Games competition in Los Angeles. The 11-time X Games gold medal winner will be competing in both the X Games and the Nationwide Series race this weekend, which has been dubbed the “PASTRANATHON.”
The “PASTRANATHON” weekend will be a busy one for the Pastrana-Waltrip Racing driver, Thursday and Friday Pastrana will compete in the X Games Best Trick and Freestyle competitions.
