Bowyer shows off new look this weekend

It will be a little more difficult to recognize Emporia, Kan. native Clint Bowyer in the upcoming 2009 season. Bowyer, the NASCAR Nationwide Series champion and fifth-place finisher in the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, is looking forward to the upcoming season and an entirely new setup. Bowyer will pilot the no. 33 car and have a new crew and colors.
"It's all new for me," said Bowyer. "New colors, new sponsors, new number, all new team. It is going to be a lot of fun this year; it's going to be a challenge. I'mlooking forward to the challenge."
Mike Dillon, Bowyer's spotter while in the 07 car, is the only crew member accompanying Bowyer to his new team. Veteran crew chief Shane Wilson, who has worked with Bowyer previously in the Nationwide Series, will serve as his Cup Crew Chief.
"He's very organized and very methodical about everything that he has gone about so far," Bowyer said. "It is going to take some time. There is going to be a learning curve, but when we hit our stride, I think it is going to be good."
Bowyer will begin his season at this weekend’s Daytona 500 where he will start 22nd. Bowyer's new team wasn't guaranteed a starting spot in the race. After purchasing the assets of another team, including driver/owner points, his spot in the field was assured.
"There is a comforting feeling just to be able to know you are in the show," said Bowyer. "Knowing the last three years I haven't had to worry about that and then all of the sudden, it is a huge worry. It makes you sick to your stomach."
Bowyer will return to Kansas Speedway with the Chase for the Sprint Cup on October 4, 2009. He will look to win for the first time at his home track after having three top-ten finishes in as many years.
"It's a very special place for me," Bowyer said. "I'm proud of Kansas and Kansas Speedway and growing up in the area surrounding Kansas Speedway."
