ATLANTA (Feb. 24, 2019) – Brad Keselowski may want to consider sitting out Saturday practices for the rest of the season if it leads to more wins. Just one day after receiving IV-fluids and having Austin Cindric practice his car, Keselowski held off a hard charging Martin Truex Jr. for the 28th win of his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series career.
Keselowski wasn’t the dominant driver throughout the day that saw NASCAR new rules package take effect, but he took advantage of the miscues by other top drivers. Kyle Larson led 142 laps, but a pit road speeding penalty cost with 100 laps to go cost him a chance at the win. Joey Logano had also battled for the lead with Keselowski but a loose wheel forced him to pit road, knocking him out of contention.
“Winning the first race whenever there’s a major rules change means something to me personally because when you look at the great drivers over the years, they were able to win in different disciplines,” said Keselowski. With the win, Keselowski became Team Penske’s all-time winningest driver.
Kurt Busch, who is with Chip Ganassi Racing this year, finished third, while his former teammates at Stewart-Haas Racing, Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer, finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Race fans can see Keselowski and the rest of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers in action at Kansas Speedway on May 11. Tickets are on sale now at www.kansasspeedway.com, by calling 866.460.7223 or at the Kansas Speedway Ticket Office Monday through Friday from 9 AM – 5 Pm.
