ARMY SPECIAL FORCES UNITS TO STAGE DARING PRE-RACE TACTICAL DEMONSTRATION AT THE CAMPING WORLD RV 400 PRESENTED BY COLEMAN
Soldiers from the U.S. Army Special Operations Command will thrill race fans with a daring pre-race demonstration prior to the start of the Camping World RV 400 presented by Coleman at Kansas Speedway on September 28, 2008. NASCAR fans will get a first hand and up-close look at a Special Operations infiltration demonstration, including a high-altitude, low-opening (HALO) parachute jump by the U.S. Army Special Operations Command’s Black Daggers. Also, the official Ford Fusion pace car is going on a special “ride” as part of the pre-race demonstration. It will be airlifted and then offloaded onto the track by an MH-47 Chinook helicopter from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne). Following the pace car “delivery”, eight Special Forces Soldiers will fly into action on two MH-6 Little Bird helicopters for a simulated tactical infiltration. “We are extremely proud to host members of our elite Special Forces units in this spectacular pre-race demonstration,” said Kansas Speedway President Jeff Boerger. “Our race fans will be thrilled as these soldiers perform some of the most daring and dangerous maneuvers in military combat. This should prove to be one of the most awe-inspiring pre-race shows in Kansas Speedway history!” Units represented at the event are scheduled to include Soldiers from the 160th SOAR and the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) based at Fort Campbell, Ky., and Headquarters, USASOC from Fort Bragg, N.C. Fans are also invited to view static displays of an MH-6 Little Bird with crew and a Special Forces Operation Detachment-Alpha modular demonstration during Kansas Speedway’s Speedfest Friday, Sept. 26. The event does not require a race ticket to attend.
