Kansas Speedway Provides $243 Million Economic Impact to State of Kansas Annually

Since 2001, Kansas Speedway has been an integral and important part of the sports, entertainment and tourism industry for the state of Kansas. That importance was revealed today when Kansas Speedway President Jeff Boerger announced the results of an economic impact study that revealed the ongoing operations of the speedway brings $243 million to the state each year.

"The economic impact study reveals what most Kansans have known since 2001 - Kansas Speedway is a great partner to the state," said Boerger, who was the vice president of the Kansas City Area Development Council before joining Kansas Speedway. "Through our racing events and other activities, we are able to provide an impact of $243 million to the state each year. Because of the recognition of Kansas Speedway as a premier motorsports facility, we have placed Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas into the spotlight on a national stage which has attracted the development around the speedway."

The study, conducted by respected economic consulting practice The Washington Economics Group, Inc., shows that Kansas Speedway has had a significant impact on the growth surrounding the track as hotels, restaurants and retail outlets take advantage of the opportunities created by the activities at Kansas Speedway.

The report also concluded that Kansas Speedway provides important external benefits to the state, including Kansas' brand as a leading professional motorsports state in the U.S., and the support of the speedway and NASCAR activities in attracting and retaining other industries by adding to the entertainment portfolio of the state.
