Jimmie Johnson takes home ESPY
The two time defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion, Jimmie Johnson, won the ESPY Award for “Best Driver” last week at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles. Jimmie Johnson beat out Kyle Busch, current Sprint Cup Series points leader, and Dario Franchitti, NASCAR Rookie and 2008 Indianapolis 500 winner, Scott Dixon, for the award. The fans determined who won the ESPY by voting online.

Kyle Busch was also nominated for Best Breakthrough athlete with his seven Cup victories, five Nationwide Series wins and two first place finishes in the Craftsman truck Series.

Danica Patrick was nominated for two awards including Best Female Athlete and Best Moment for her first place finish at Japan the week before racing at Kansas Speedway Road Runner Turbo Indy 300.

In the Best Finish category, the 2007 Pepsi 400 at Daytona was nominated for Jamie McMurray’s photo finish victory over Kyle Busch.

Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves presented the award for the Female International Athlete of the Year.

Jimmie Johnson and other top NASCAR drivers make their way to Kansas Speedway on September 27-28 to compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Kansas Lottery 300 and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kansas 400.
