On a night that started with SpongeBob SquarePants and his friends celebrating their time at Kansas Speedway, Jimmie Johnson was the one celebrating at the end of the night in the SpongeBob SquarePants 400.
Checking out the SpongeBob SquarePants 400 trophy, Johnson expressed his excitement with the uniqueness of the trophy.
“I’m excited to get home to show my kids this cool SpongeBob trophy,” said Johnson. “I can’t wait to see their reaction.”
Jimmie Johnson became the second three-time Kansas Speedway winner Saturday night, matching the record of his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon, who won the inaugural night race in 2014.
Johnson gambled on pit strategy and stayed out during the final caution of the race to take over the lead for the restart and held off a late charge by Kevin Harvick to go to Gatorade Victory Lane in Kansas.
“It’s fun to win one gambling. I think this is our first time winning one by gambling.”
Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished third, followed by Gordon and Joey Logano.
Harvick leads the Sprint Cup Series point standings followed by Martin Truex Jr., Johnson, Logano and Earnhardt.
