GRAND-AM ROAD RACING TEAMS TESTING AT KANSAS SPEEDWAY – DAY TWO
Almost déjà vu.
That’s the best way to describe day two of the GRAND-AM test at Kansas Speedway as Ozz Negri (Rolex Sports Car Series) and Roush Performance (Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series) kept their cars at the top of the speed chart in their respective series for most of the two days.
The lone driver to break up the perfect streak: Joao Barbosa. Barbosa took the top spot in the sixth and final test session for the Rolex Series and also posted the fastest lap of the weekend. Ozz Negri definitely felt right at home at the top of the speed charts at Kansas Speedway as he topped the charts in five of the six sessions for the Rolex Series. If this weekend is any indication, Negri may well be one of the drivers to beat next August when the series returns for their first race at Kansas Speedway.
For the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series, it was an all Roush Performance weekend. Shelby Blackstock topped the charts in the first practice of the day, repeating his performance from yesterday. But, just like yesterday, Billy Johnson returned to the top of the chart in the second practice of the day. There was a change for the final session of the day, though. In the last practice, Corey Fergus, the recent winner of the Sport 2000 at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs, briefly jumped behind the wheel of the car Johnson had been driving and posted the fastest lap in the session. Next August, the Roush Performance cars will no doubt be looking forward to returning to Kansas Speedway.
