Kansas City Royals Manager Trey Hillman experienced the thrill of IndyCar Series racing in an Indy car two-seater at Kansas Speedway today. Hillman also toured the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series garages and met with Mike Skinner, driver of the Randy Moss Motorsports #5.
Hillman’s Indy car surpassed speeds of 180 mph; nearly twice the speed of the fastest pitches in baseball. He was impressed with the power and g forces of the Indy car, and is looking forward to getting back to the track in the future.
“You could feel it suck down as soon as you hit the first straightaway,” said Hillman. “The acceleration, the speed, the precision and control the driver had – it was something to behold.”
Hillman and Skinner discussed comparisons between racing and baseball, as well as their mutual respect for each others sport.
“There are comparisons between what I do for a living and what you guys do for a living, especially with the amount of teamwork in NASCAR and IndyCar,” said Hillman. “I’ve always had an appreciation for what you do because of what your bodies have to go through, along with the amount of concentration and the danger involved.”
Hillman said he follows NASCAR when he has time, but really appreciates how the sport treats its fans.
“One of the things I’ve always been impressed with is how NASCAR has marketed the sport and how you guys have done an unbelievable job of catering to the fans,” said Hillman.
