Local NASCAR Drivers Compete for the Nationwide Series Title
Clint Bowyer, Emporia, Kan., native, captured the NASCAR Nationwide Series point leader position Saturday. On Bowyer’s heels is Colombia, Mo., native Carl Edwards, trailing by eleven points.
Both Edwards and Bowyer compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series. A Sprint Cup race was not scheduled for last weekend, but Bowyer and Edwards weren’t taking a break. Edwards, placing third, is not looking to give up his Nationwide Series title. Bowyer snagged a second place finish in the Nationwide Series race on Saturday, putting him at the top in points.
“I pretty much got it wrapped up. Everybody knows who are going to be the cars to beat. This guy sitting next to me (Carl Edwards) will certainly be there,” said Bowyer. "I don't think it will be who wins the most races. It will come down to who makes the fewest mistakes."'
Bowyer and Edwards will both be racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Kansas Lottery 300 on Sept. 27, and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kansas 400 on Sept. 28, at Kansas Speedway.
