Cooler Temps Ahead for IRL Race
Fans come first at Kansas Speedway. Kansas Speedway officials have moved its IRL IndyCar Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series weekend to April 28-29 for the 2007 season. The change comes following an extensive survey with race fans who annually visit "The Track That Will Blow You Away!" Some 70 percent of those polled found that speedway ticketholders prefer moving the race date to a month with cooler temperatures. The IndyCar Series weekend has been held in July for the past six years and has become synonymous with uncomfortably hot temperatures.
"Our race fans come first," speedway President Jeff Boerger said. "They've really stuck with us over the past six years because that's how exciting the IRL racing is. But moving this race weekend to the springtime will make the weekend even more spectacular. It will be cooler for fans, the drivers, the media and the staff."
The IndyCar Series will race on Sunday, April 29. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will serve as a companion event to the IndyCar race on Saturday, April 28. The two events comprise part of Kansas Speedway's RPM Season, which also includes the NASCAR Busch Series on Sept. 29 and the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series on Sept. 30.
"We're excited to make this date change announcement in conjunction with Kansas Speedway and pleased to assist Jeff Boerger and his staff respond to its fan base's desire for a race date offering cooler temperatures," IRL President Brian Barnhart said. "Putting Kansas Speedway on the schedule right before the Indianapolis 500 allows an already successful event to grow even more in stature while offering the IndyCar Series a great platform heading in to the month of May."
The new, cooler race weekend in April makes Kansas Speedway's IndyCar race the lead-in event to the famed and historic Indianapolis 500.
"This date change solidifies Kansas Speedway's IRL race as the most prestigious IndyCar Series event outside of the Indianapolis 500. It also strengthens our commitment to the race fans that support us," Boerger said.
